😠 Customer Service....what customer service. Site is up 99% of the time, but they will not allow "HTTPS" and my biggest problem is email. Email is constantly now working correctly and yet they say it is....then when they find something they recreate your account and LOSE all your old emails...

😠 SCAMMERS BEWARE freeservers .s5.com FRAUD
This is a horrible company to host your site on...here is what they did to my client. They offer these urls with the site. Then after you get your site built and you have all those links pointing to it and have a good ranking in the search engines, they will write you a letter and tell you you must change your URL to a new one. They will NOT redirect your traffic to the new URL, instead they will put up a ad that says your Old URL is available along with an ad to buy a website from them. They recently done this with the s5.com extension. You can protest all you want to to these people they said they would not redirect the traffic to the new url (currently called mysite.com) Stay away from these people they will ruin your business by taking over your URL and making it into a marking tool for their profit and all your hard work will be for nothing. 😞 I agree -- worst customer service ever!
Every year like clockwork my email messages vanish from my inbox. Freeservers wants $75 to restore what THEY DELETED! In the past I've gotten them to see it is their fault, but this year they are being stubborn. I've been around and around with tech support for 3 months now, and am about to give up. I have a small commercial site that works well, is easy to edit and manage, so in that area I'm content. But the email problem is horrible and they should be ashamed.

They are in Philippines and it looks like they have 2 horrible people in the beisment running these servers!!!!
They do not care about you or anyone else! I had to suffer over 14 years with them because I was afraid to change my domain with build SEO - links and history.

😠 worst company ever, my email and website has been down for 6 days so far. every time i call in they tell you it will be repaired in 24/48 hours, finally i got one of the Indian(with american names) tech sopport and customer service people to tell me the truth, that the only guy that could fix the problem was on vacation and the issue would not be repair until he got back. Now i'm trying to change to a different company but can't get them to release domain name until this tech gets back. 😠 customer service in India, site designed to prevent cancellation
My original provider sold their company to this umbrella, and the functionality was fine overall but customer service was an exercise in pulling teeth. The office hours are limited, the offices are in India, or you only speak with people in India, and front line service is designed to say "No" to anything that makes closing accounts or moving them possible. The adminstrator panel allows basically everything but cancelling your account, and you can't even remove your credit card info via the site when the offices are closed. Rates are too high for this business/hosting model, and if you want to get anything done, especially in terms of relocating your hosting, you'll probably have to yell at or verbally confront the front line service. Twice I was told "No," I can't do that, and had it turn out that "Yes," it could be done, but only if I berated the CS rep first. That's a poor business model.

😠 Avoid at all cost!
I am a published author who had her site hosted by Freeservers with the business pricing plan. After more than four years of being their customer, they deleted my website without warning. I called up and was told the problem would be escalated and would take 24-72 hours to fix. I called back the next day and was told that it was deleted for "TOS violations". No details or further explanation given even after I requested it, and I have to call up a company in Australia to transfer over the nameservers so I can have my site back.

In addition, their tech and customer support is horrible; they barely speak English and you have to repeat yourself over and over again because they can't understand you.

Years ago this company was amazing, a good bang for your buck and you got back replies in record time from people who could speak English and they took care of you. Unfortunately the economy must've hit them hard because they've outsourced everything, and the quality shows. I had [read more...]

😞 I have been complacent. My site is not too big and fancy. I don't need the "bells and whistles" that other sites have. It is a very basic site and I admit that the traffic is not so big. I have been complacent with the $1 per year service I have, which just keeps ads off of my site. The "free" sites are so garbled with ads, it snags up my browser. Today I tried to call customer service to update my information since I moved out of state and obtained a new credit card. Sounded like a stereotypical out-sourced customer service rep. I had to repeat the most basic things multiple times. Then when it was all finally updated, he started trying to talk me into some upgraded (pricier) package. 😠 For years I have had a personal 'paid to be hosted' web site on Freeservers / MySpace. It has grown to about 100 pages. Each page has a proprietary access counter. All counters have one line in a file on the root called fscount.js (it is not a Javascript file though, but a simple text file).

Late last year I was monitoring the access to some new pages, and wondering why the counters were not working. I investigated and found that the fscount.js file had what looked like corrupted entries.

The updating mechanism was opening the file, locating the respective counter line, extracting the current value, increasing this by one, modifying the line to the new value, and then saving the file. All simple stuff. And this process is something that should have coped with concurrent updates as different pages were accessed at the same time. As I said it is a small site of 100 pages = 100 counters.

😠 I have had continually problems with freeservers.com. I have been with freeservers for several years with a booming website and it started out great but after a year things started to go downhill.

I've had continually email problems with receiving and sending mail through my outlook. I call technical support and get little to no help.

I am now switching to another hosting company!

😠 I've used Freeservers to host two sites for about 10 years and this year will be the last. It seems that each year there is a mysterious problem: either they delete my stats or the site goes down. I don't really care where Customer Service is based (Bangalore, I'm guessing), but wherever they are they never fix the problem you ask about without creating another one.

Most recently, I wasn't able to add another email address due to some glitch on their end. Sounds simple, right? Not to the customer support people. After several emails back and forth they were finally able to understand the problem. After a few more, they were able to fix it--but in the process they deleted the main email address that had been up for 10 years.

I finally called phone support and they were incredibly unhelpful. After two weeks I'm still waiting for them to fix a problem they created themselves.

😠 Reading the other reviews it looks like I am not alone, the biggest problem appears to be that they cannot fix simple technical issues now that their customer service centre is in India.
I found their website build system to be incredibly easy albeit a little inflexible, but with creativity you can work around this to get a nice looking site without any knowledge of web design tools.
I used their email forwarding system to create email addresses which are linked to our site and after 7 years spread around our members in the UK. The problem came when I needed to change the forwarding addresses to a new provider (for me) and it was impossible to edit, change, remove/replace any of these.
Their customer service is appalling and this seems totally linked to moving the service to India where they don't seem to have the expertise or resource to resolve this. This is compounded by personnel who don't speak (or mainly hear) English very well and seem only interested to get you off the [read more...]

😠 These guys blow!

I had my site hosted with them for years and then they transferred it to "mysite.com"... No problem, right? Since they're both owned by the same company, United Online (the same company that owns Juno, netzero, and a few others)

Well the problem is the customer service is outsourced to India or pakistan or somewhere else that the people barely speak any english. I've spent days emailing them and calling them about my website being down, and I still haven't gotten it resolved.

All I keep getting is the customer "lack of service" reps telling me they will look into it immediately. I'm not sure what immediately means over in India, but here in the USA, 3 days (and waiting) is NOT immediate, and it's NOT acceptable when you're trying to run a small business that depends on its website for marketing.

😃 I've used Freeservers for just over two years now and can't really complain. I had one problem that I Emailed them about and it was corrected within 24 hours. I don't have a lot of contact with their Customer Service Dept so I can't comment there but if they're located in India I won't be a Happy Camper when I may have to call. I am ALL FOR American Cust Svc. I found the Sitebuilder VERY easy to use.

😠 I'm on the Premium plan - or was. Suddenly nd without warning they have completely dsiabled my web site - chrisbrady.itgo.com - I have tried to login to update the billing info. and the system even blocks that. I've emailed Billing, and Info., and Customer Service - but NO response - none, zero, zilch, sfa. I can't phone the 1-800 no. 'cos it would cost me big time from the UK. It appears that my subscription ran out - but no-one emailed me in advance to warn me, no-one sent me an invoice, no-one billed me for a renewal, no-one contacted me to say that my renewal was overdue. I havenow lost a HUGE and popular site. In the past I have tried to pre-empt such a situation and wanted to take out a 10 year membership. But Freeservers insisted that they only offer one year memberships. Doh!! Now I hear that they are India. Time to mnove my web site to a more professional ISP in the UK. CJB.

😠 Well, it appears that this company has moved to India and now you can't get any real help at all when you call for support. We were using one of their subdomains (s5.com to be exact) and suddenly our website (which we were paying for) disappeared. We called them and got someone in India that couldn't speak English very well and who could not understand English at all. Got no real answers after calling several times. My site has been down now for several days and i am loosing business and will become lost in the search engine rankings if they should spider the website and not find it..... I don't suggest this hosing company at all...they are really bad.....

😠 I started a website on 8/16/08 and enjoyed the 'no banners' for 7 days free so much that I chose to buy the next up package for $4.95 a month before the 7 days was completed. Well, $4.95 a month is right, alright, but they didn't say it was all to be paid in advance, so it really cost $59.40. 😠 I have had my web pages on Freeservers for since the beginning of time.. they have moved the customer service to India.. you can't get anything done on a timely manner....

I pay $23.00 a month for the hosting but have spent over 2 hours on the phone with them in the last month alone.... they have cost me over $300 in my own time, lost revenue and much aggrevation.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND FREESERVERS to anyone. I am in the process of trying to find another HOST to move to.

FREESERVERS might want to get their customer service back and fix their system.

Also.. my site has been shut down twice in the last month because their accounting office does not know how to keep track of payments. I paid twice in 15 days for my site and they still say the payments have not been made.

I guess you can tell my frustration.

😠 I have had a site on freeservers since 1999. I started out with the basic plan without banners but went to the lowest value plan without banners since it was the same service at a lower cost. Took me a year to find this out. Had no problems other than of my own making until a year or so ago, when they either expanded or were bought out by a bigger company. Problems started arise but eventually were fixed, so couldn't complain too much. However, as of last week (May 13, 2008) they have been having problems with their email servers and I have been unable to get my student's emails ever since. I finally was able to access via their website today (5/20) and it appears my mailbox is now gone with all saved and new emails also vanished. Que lastima. After all these years (almost a decade!) they have frustrated me to the point where I now must change my host. I'm pretty easy going, so that says alot.

😉 I have a website through Freeservers for over 6 years. I don't build or edit my site through Freeservers. I built it in Dreamweaver and used CuteFTP to upload it to the internet. My complaint is with the email. I have not been able to access my email mailboxes for 3 days.
If I get to the manage mailbox section of their site at all I don't even have mailboxes! The two I had set up are gone along with my 200 or so emails. I was expecting some important emails and am not happy about this. I called three times and was told they were working on the problem. They are not "open" on the weekend. I have been getting the following message:Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request, or WARNING: Internal Module Compilation Failure!

Does anyone know what this means?

😠 I have had 2 websites hosted with Freeservers for over 5 years which worked perfectly. For the last 3-4 weeks I have no smtp email, and I can not find any contact phone number on their website (edit .. I think it may be 1 800 396 1999 if anyone needs it). Before they had phenomenal telephone customer support. Now there is NONE. There has been no response to any support emails.

Imap email is working fine, as is the webmail option, but no smtp relay.

😠 had this company hosting my site till one day someone called in and they let someone move my site to another server. I got in contact with the owner mark and he pretty much passed me off to a idiot who cannot help me recover my site. I am still waiting to hear from them and they seemed to now move their support to india. do not recommend!!!

Paid to have ads removed and after a month they're still there, plus many web pages using javascript won't load or display properly. Used to be a decent company. Now just a complete mess. 😞 Freeservers.com was great when I started with them. Phone support was there without long waits and things worked well. Something changed. Even though my plan qualifies for phone support I CANNOT find a phone number on the site. No one answers my emails and some of the help pages will not load in my browser - so I have no help. As soon as I can find another hosting site I'm moving my 3 websites.

😠 Very poor. My e-mail has been down now for two weeks. Even their web mail interfaces don't work.

Customer service is pretty much non-existent.

When you call their main number 801-437-6000 you drop into a loop that apologizes that "we're having system issues."

😠 Beautiful! I just bought their hosting for a domain name I bought, and I can't even get in to edit the damn thing.
No one has answered my email about the problem yet, and I'm pretty pissed off right now.

When you go to log into your account, all it says is

WELCOME TO YOUR FUTURE WEB SITE CREATOR
You have not yet published your website.

Big freakin surprise, I can't even edit it, let alone publish it.
Thats ALL that's on the screen once you log in, no clickable links, no nothing.
Go back, and there's just the log in screen again. No links to edit anything, no help at all, their site map looks like a half-assed /html/blahblahblah/ itemized crap screen with no FAQ's.
I bought it a week ago, and I'm wishing I would have just gone with some other server who actually practices what they preach.

Don't waste your money!

😞 I have two sites hosted at Freeservers. One uses their Value Plan, the other Value Plus. I also have a webpage on their banner supported server. Well, I won't give them as bad of a review as others, but I can't give a great review, either. A lot of downtime (two 5-10 minute periods in the past month). So/so html editors. However, I had more problems over at Yahoo, and their customer support, in my experience, is far wirse than Freeservers. Both have decent tutorials for those unfamiliar with html. I did not encounter the billing problems with Freeservers than other reviewers had, likely because they appear to no longer bill monthly and charge annually. They have taken from my account the amount they advertise. But, technically, my big beef is their servers are seemingly unreliable, which is a sin for the company which also runs Netzero (although dialup is history, thank heaven). 😞 My father had free hosting with freeservers, in 2001 he decided to pay for the most basic pack that includes 50 mb and no ads. About the service itself there are no complaints, everything that he needed worked well, but his site is plain HTML. However the financial part is what I'm trying to warn you about.
In 2006 I grew up to discover and clean all the mess: since the beginning (2001) they took of $5/month instead of $3. Now at 2006 they started to take $6/month. Just like that, without any notice and explanation.
This time he mailed them asking for explanation, however all they wrote back was "we do not disclose financial information by mail". Later I looked for other reviews of freeservers and it occurs that it's their auto-responce to any financial question or request :-\
Since he pays by VISA, he can't do anything against this fraud, and now we'll have to cancel his VISA card so these freeserers scammers won't be able to charge him again >:-(]

😠 I registered for the "Value Plus" plan. I've had nothing but problems with Freeservers. Email exchanges are the worst. It takes a few days to a week for them to respond and I've had occasions where I'd get nonsense information from them when I asked questions like why a link that should work in my control panel goes to a 404 page. In fact, in a recent email conversation in which I received two responses, both responses told me to get the link to work, I have to click on it! I asked them to forward my email to someone who can actually help me and it's been days and I haven't received a response back yet.

In addition, it's often hard to access via FTP and the features that actually work aren't advanced enough for good and efficient web site creation, and their control panel is confusing, with links that go nowhere and an oddly structured configuration. You don't get what you should for what you pay for, either.

😠 We purchased the cheap hosting plan. Our site was up for three days and they disable it. We tried several times to contact support phone desk without success until fifth try, when they told us about a credit card problem.

After two calls to their billing department without answer, three emails to [email protected] and two to [email protected] without any answer, we migrated to computinghost.com, which works very well so far.
